The full definition
FBCLID is the Meta equivalent of GCLID. Meta appends FBCLID to ad clicks; advertisers capture and store it; later they send conversion events back to Meta via the Conversions API (CAPI) with the FBCLID. Meta uses the data to optimize ad delivery toward people who actually convert — not just click.
Why it matters in practice
Meta Ads' algorithm has gotten substantially smarter as more advertisers send first-party conversion data via CAPI. Healthcare practices that capture FBCLID and send booked patient events to Meta typically see CPA improvements of 25–50% over advertisers who rely on the Meta pixel alone.
Real-world examples
- Capturing FBCLID on an Instagram Story-driven web form
- Sending a 'Schedule' conversion event back to Meta when the lead books an appointment
- Sending a 'Purchase' event when the patient completes a treatment cycle (for high-LTV optimization)
